Old Chatbots and Offline AI Models

Remember those old AI chatbots we used to talk to?

Before ChatGPT, Simsimi & Cleverbot were the hottest AI chatbots during the 2010s.

For the time, they were actually really advanced.

Some might even say their intelligence was… “artificial” 😏

They even passed the Turing Test with a score above 50%.

However, despite their power, these primitive AI chatbots were not yet on par with our current language models.

Most of the time, they gave responses that made you feel like you were chatting with keyboard-typing baboons.

Recently, I was reminded of these chatbots as I was fooling around with new AI models that could run offline on simple laptops.

Although these new models are not as powerful yet as Chat G-P-T, and still hallucinated a lot like your grandpa on L-S-D.

I think they are still great tools for small businesses that can’t afford expensive hardware, software, and personal assistants.

And also we could still build amazing web applications on top of them, without the need to rely on and pay for other commercial APIs.
