A Letter to My Dog

It is fascinating how there are things that exist solely to give love, like how dogs patiently wait yet excitedly wag their tails when they see us.

They accompany us when we’re lonely, even when we’re not with them all the time.

Even if we annoy them with our weird sense of grooming and make them wear goofy clothes, they accept us no matter how strange we may be.

But if you’re the cynical type, you might see this as just a result of controlled evolution.

Early humans hijacked wild dogs and genetically altered them for thousands of years, so these beasts would instinctively love us.

You may question the authenticity and genuineness of their love toward us.

However, does it really matter?

Does it really matter if their love is just human-imposed instincts?

Does the reason truly matter if, at the end of the day, they feel love, and they are loved in return?

I don’t have all the answers, and I don’t have a degree in evolutionary dog ethics.

But I guess if it is love, and it feels love, then that is all that matters.

To all the dogs, cats, goldfishes, and roosters (na paboritong anak ng mga tatay), know that all of you are loved, and we are loved because of you.

Goodbye to our good boi, Butch.

Say hello to your friends Macey and Stork in doggo heaven.

All the love, your gym buddy -Y
